Quick thoughts -
the fear of being alone in the old age was much greater than her ego she would have had against her daughter-in-law for sleeping with another man. She had not just read about it or heard about it, but she had actually experienced that loneliness throughout her life when her husband wasn’t with her in her life.

The girl made an objective and calculated decision instead of an emotional one.
